From trash to art: Lisbon is ready!

The latest beach clean led saw scores of people answer the call to help pick up piles of rubbish that wash ashore from the ocean. “The eighth edition of the Keep the Oceans Clean! beach clean up was great, and very productive,” said project coordinator Jacqui Smith.“It has been fantastic to help make this beautiful part of the world a little more stunning. We hope that locals are inspired by the morning’s activities, and realise how easy it is to make a big difference to a beach that needs some TLC.”

Thanks a lot to all whom made this last Saturday’s beach clean was a special one! Surfrider Foundation Lisboa had provided invaluable help in organising the clean up and since Lisbon is Joao’s home town, many of his friends and family came helping the cause.

The collected waste will now be turned into a sculpture at a series of art workshops held at the Keep the Oceans Clean! Dome in the Race Village. The free workshops take place daily from June 3 to 9 daily from 3pm to 8pm. “I’m very happy with the way the beach clean went,” Joao added. “There were lots of materials that will be perfect for the sculpture, so I’m excited to get started.”
